LNG export advocates ramped up their campaign to pressure the Obama administration to grant permission for shipments of the fuel, battling against a new push from some big gas buyers to keep the nation’s supplies at home.
A coalition of energy patch mayors from Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma sent letters to Energy Secretary Steven Chu Thursday, urging him to expedite the process for approving LNG export permits and licensing approvals.
“As the mayor of a government, I know how easy it is to kick the can down the road,” said Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett, who was among the letter writers. “We should be beyond that at this point in time. I’m trying to express the urgency with which we should evaluate this process.”
